American Family Insurance Championship to Debut Team Format in 2025
The American Family Insurance Championship is set to introduce a team format for its 2025 tournament, to be held at the newly co-designed TPC Wisconsin by Steve Stricker. Ernie Els hinted at this shift earlier in the year, and the tournament officially confirmed the change.
This PGA Tour Champions event will still span three days, running from June 6-8 in Madison, Wisconsin, and will feature two-player teams, a first for the Champions Tour. Stricker, who has led teams in both the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup, shared his enthusiasm: "The team format brings an extra layer of excitement and competition to the game."
The tournament will use a best-ball format on Friday and Sunday, where each player plays their own ball, and the lowest score on each hole counts toward the team’s score. Saturday’s round will be a team scramble, with both players teeing off and playing from the best shot.
In total, 76 players will form 38 teams. The top 38 players in the field will choose their partners, with Els mentioning Tim Herron as his preferred teammate if he qualifies.
The event’s prize fund is set at $3 million, with the winning team splitting a $600,000 reward.
