PGA Tour star Cameron Young has pulled out of the World Wide Technology Championship in Mexico. Considered one of the event favorites, the 27-year-old’s withdrawal was confirmed by the PGA Tour, though no specific reason was provided. Young’s spot in the tournament has been filled by Sean O’Hair.
The World Wide Technology Championship, part of the FedEx Cup Fall series, begins tomorrow. With Young out, players like Max Greyserman, Doug Ghim, Matti Schmid, and Harris English now emerge as strong contenders.
Young, currently in his third full season on the PGA Tour, is widely regarded as one of the best players yet to secure a victory. His career highlights include a third-place finish at the 2022 PGA Championship and a runner-up showing at the historic 150th Open at St. Andrews. Despite missing the Tour Championship in both 2023 and 2024, he remains fully exempt for the upcoming season and is set to compete in all signature events.
As the tournament kicks off, defending champion Erik van Rooyen will look to replicate his dramatic win from last year. Van Rooyen’s emotional victory was driven by a personal mission: honoring his late college teammate, Jon Transamar, who passed away from melanoma in 2023. Reflecting on the past year, van Rooyen emphasized, “Golf means a lot to me, but there are far more important things in life.”
With a competitive field and high stakes, the World Wide Technology Championship promises another thrilling chapter in this season's PGA Tour journey.
