David Feherty, known for his humor and candidness, has had a notable journey in the world of golf—from his early years as a professional player to becoming one of the most recognized voices in golf broadcasting. With five victories on the European Tour and a spot on the 1991 Ryder Cup team, Feherty’s playing career left a lasting impact on the sport. Despite the European team’s narrow loss to the U.S. at Kiawah Island, his singles match victory against Payne Stewart remains a highlight for Feherty.

Now completing his third season as a commentator for LIV Golf, Feherty has been part of the league's broadcast team alongside play-by-play announcer Arlo White and reporter Jerry Foltz. Reflecting on his move to LIV Golf, Feherty openly acknowledges that financial incentives played a key role. “It wasn’t a difficult decision,” he said, noting that his long-standing friendship with Greg Norman, LIV's commissioner, also influenced his choice. Feherty admired Norman's vision for globalizing golf, which aligned with his own passion for the sport.
Having signed a five-year deal with LIV, Feherty is eager to continue in the role, even beyond his current contract. “I’ve been in the game for over 50 years,” he said, expressing his desire to stay involved in the sport for as long as possible.
Feherty's career in broadcasting began unexpectedly. While going through a tumultuous period in his life, including personal struggles with addiction and a difficult divorce, CBS approached him with an offer to join their golf coverage team. The timing was fortuitous, as it coincided with Tiger Woods turning pro in 1996. Working alongside Woods during his early career helped elevate Feherty’s profile as a commentator.
Despite his success at CBS and later NBC, Feherty reflects that he often felt underutilized. Moving to LIV Golf has allowed him to take on a more prominent role as the lead analyst in their broadcast coverage, where he feels his strengths—such as reading body language—are better showcased.
Regarding LIV Golf, Feherty dismisses claims that it is merely "exhibition golf." He believes the players take the competition seriously, especially when it comes to the team format, which has become a defining feature of the league. "These players care deeply about the competition," he noted, highlighting the excitement of seeing top players like Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau battle it out on the course.
Looking back, Feherty remains proud of his Ryder Cup experience, even though his team fell short. The week remains a cherished memory, much like the many other moments that have defined his long and colorful career in golf.
