In a recent podcast appearance, former U.S. President Donald Trump weighed in on the ongoing negotiations between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, suggesting that he could help expedite the process. Speaking on the Let’s Go! podcast with hosts Jim Gray and Bill Belichick, Trump claimed he could broker an agreement between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf in “the better part of 15 minutes.”
The PGA Tour and the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) announced a "framework agreement" in June 2023, sparking widespread speculation about a potential merger. However, with no finalized deal, many top LIV Golf players remain ineligible for certain major championships, disappointing players and fans alike.
Trump, who has previously hosted LIV events, expressed his belief that golf would benefit from a unified tour that includes top players from both the PGA Tour and LIV Golf. “I do think we should have one tour with the best players on it,” he remarked. “There are a lot of incredible players on LIV, and it would be great if everyone could compete together. It’s unfortunate when anyone is excluded from a major.”
While PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan, PIF Governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan, and other key stakeholders have met multiple times to discuss the future, no final agreement has been reached. Trump’s comments highlight the ongoing challenges and the desire from some quarters for a resolution that brings both tours closer together.
