World No. 1 Nelly Korda faced a challenging second round at the Women's PGA Championship, shooting an 81 to miss the cut by one stroke. After starting the tournament with a promising 3-under 69, Korda struggled on the front nine, bogeying the first four holes and additional strokes on six and nine, leading to a front-nine score of 42.
Korda's difficulties continued on the back nine, with bogeys on the 11th and 14th holes, followed by a double bogey on the 15th. She managed a lone birdie on the 18th, finishing the day six over par.
This marks the third consecutive event where Korda has missed the cut, following similar outcomes at the US Women's Open and the Meijer LPGA Classic. Korda had previously won six of seven events, including a record-tying five straight victories.
Reflecting on her recent performances, Korda said, "It's just golf recently for me. No words for how I am playing right now. I'm just going to go home and try to reset."
While Korda struggled, Sarah Schmelzel and Amy Yang shared the lead at 6-under 136. Schmelzel, who has yet to win on the LPGA Tour, posted a 67 in the morning, while Yang shot 68 in the afternoon. Schmelzel's round included a 10-foot birdie putt on the 17th and an aggressive play on the 18th, leading to a tap-in birdie and the lowest round of the championship.
Despite the setback, Korda remains optimistic about resetting and returning to form in future tournaments.
